Let’s use video to reinvent education: Salman Khan

Salman Khan talks about how and why he created the remarkable Khan Academy, a carefully structured series of educational videos offering complete curricula in math and, now, other subjects.

He shows the power of interactive exercises - and calls for teachers to consider flipping the traditional classroom script - give students video lectures to watch at home, and do you “homework” in the classroom with the teacher available to help.

(Recorded at TED2011, March 2011, in Long Beach, California)

Social media allows anyone to become a video producer. The result is an explosion of high-quality teaching videos.

Some years ago a teacher might show video in class every once in a while, as a motivation. But today there are teachers who really use videos in the classroom, between other digital resources, to enrich school time. There are a lot of videos from which to choose. The students love to evolve in their skills using different data.

A teacher’s value is not in the information stored in their head, I'm always  writing that. Teachers must have the ability to pull together the best learning resources to produce a desired outcome.
